Custom acrylic panels to enclose your 3D printer

Why enclose it

  • ABS and ASA shrink as they cool. With cold air around them, corners lift off the bed and tall parts crack between layers.
  • A single draught can ruin a print that took hours: a door opening, a window, the air conditioning.
  • Once enclosed, the heated bed itself warms the air inside and the temperature stays steady from the first layer to the last.

With PLA it is the other way round: print with the door open or the lid off. Too much heat inside softens it too early and can clog the extruder.

Why acrylic

  • Clear: you can check on the print without opening it, and opening it is exactly what cools it down.
  • It withstands up to 80 °C, well above the air inside an enclosed printer.
  • Laser-cut to the exact size with a polished edge, with holes for the screws and cutouts for the filament tube or the cables.

Price including VAT for 4 identical clear acrylic panels without holes: the sides, back and top of a printer. Click one to open it in the configurator with that size. If yours are different sizes, order them together and in the same thickness: the machine set-up is paid only once. Each panel can be up to 1,000 × 600 mm.

How to order

  1. 1

    Measure each opening

Width and height of each side you want to close. If the panel is screwed on from outside, add the overlap you want; if it slides into a slot, subtract the clearance.

  2. 2

    Enter the size and thickness

In the configurator, each panel is one size. If you have several identical ones, enter how many.

  3. 3

    Add holes and cutouts

Holes in the corners or spread along the edge, with their diameter and distance from the edge, and cutouts in whatever shape you need: the filament path, the cables, a fan.

  4. 4

    Already have the design?

If you have the panels as DXF or SVG files, upload them as they are and they are cut exactly as drawn.

Frequently asked questions

3 mm or 5 mm?
If the panel is held by its edges in a frame, 3 mm holds up well up to about 40 cm per side. For a door you will open every day, or a larger or unsupported panel, go for 5 mm: it does not give when you push it. The configurator warns you when it is needed.
Can it take the heat?
Yes, with room to spare: acrylic withstands up to 80 °C, and the air inside an enclosed printer printing ABS stays well below that. What it must not do is touch the bed or the print head: leave a few centimetres of air between them and the panel.
Will it fit my printer?
Yes: it is not a kit for one model, it is cut to the sizes you give us. It works just as well to enclose an open printer as to complete the housing of one that already comes enclosed.
What about the ABS smell?
With the printer enclosed, it stays inside. If you want to vent it out, order the back or top panel with the cutout and holes for a fan with a filter.
Can I send my own design?
Yes, as DXF or SVG: outlines, holes and cutouts are cut exactly as they are in the file. If we see something that will not come out well, we let you know before making it.
